Melvin Clinton Martin
(3 Mar 1877 - 15 Jan 1880)
Newspaper clipping of obituary in Presley Martin journal, page 247. Transcribed below:
On Jan. 15, at the home of his parents,
in Dana, Illinois, MELVIN CLINTON MARTIN,
youngest child of Presley A. and E. V.
Martin, aged 2 years and 10 months.
Little "Clinty" was an unusually bright
and beautiful child, whose winning ways
took a deep hold on the hearts of all who
knew him; but
That dread reaper, whose name is Death,
Who comes with his sickle keen,
And reaps the bearded grain at a breath,
And the flowers that grow between,
Came in the form of scarlet fever, and
gathered him in his sheaf; but, comforting
thought, not in anger, not in wrath, but only
to transplant him in the sunny paradise of
God - only to transfer him to the care of him
who said: "Suffer little children to come
unto me."
