Monica Goff was born Dec. 1923, in Leitchfield, Kentucky, where she lived with her parents and older brother until 1924. In 1924, the Robert Goff family left Kentucky and moved to Minonk, Illinois. This residency was short-stayed however, because at the age of 3, in 1926, Monica and family moved back to Kentucky. The Goffs lived in Kentucky until Feb. 1931, when they moved back to Illinois, this time to Panola, Illinois. On May 31, 1934, disaster struck. The Goff home in Panola caught fire and was completely destroyed. After the fire, the Goffs moved 20 miles North, back to Minonk, Illinois. Here in Minonk, they rented three houses, two on Chestnut Street, and one on N. Walnut Street, before they purchased a home at 625 Thomas Street. ( I have pictures of these houses in my album). Monica made these moves with the Goffs and was living at 625 Thomas at the time of her marriage to Melvin in August 1943. After a honeymoon trip to Kentucky to visit Monica's family, the newlyweds came home to Minonk and lived in the upstairs of 625 Thomas until April 1944, when they moved next door to a home at 621 Thomas. Up until the time of his marriage, Melvin was living with his parents on the home farm outside of Dana, Illinois. Melvin and Monica lived at 621 Thomas Street for five and a half years until O.A. Tucker made the decision to retire from farming. At this time, November, 1948, Melvin and Monica moved to the Tucker farm, and O.A. and Geneva Tucker moved into the house in Minonk at 621 Thomas Street. Melvin and Monica farmed for the next 32 years, raising all four of their children on the original Jotham Martin homestead outside of Dana. In the winter of 1979/1980, Melvin and Monica retired from farming and moved back into Minonk, buying a house at 623 Walnut Street. Here they stayed until moving to Quincy, Illinois to be closer to family in 1995. In Quincy, Melvin and Monica bought a home at 933 Jefferson Street and lived there until 2003, when health problems would not allow them to live alone any longer. Monica and Melvin moved into the Good Samaritan Retirement Home in the summer of 2003. JMT
