Thomas MASSICKE
( - From 11 Feb 1662 to 11 Feb 1663)
There is a reference to documents that state Thomas sold Force Forge (Fforce Fforge - early spelling) in mid sixties to a RAWLINSON, co-founder of the Quaker Movement.
Force Forge still appears on maps to this day. It is between Lakes Coniston and Windermere in Cumbria. All the MASSICKS came from this area or within thirty miles.
Roy says: We had heard stories about the MASSICKS' coming down from Scotland during the troubles - what troubles we don't know as they were always having them ! My cousin DAVID ROBERT who lives in Barrow-in-Furness (Cumbria) heard a story that they may have come up from Cornwall as miners to work the Lake District Iron Mines. Once again nothing found. The latest is, the first spellings of MASSICKS is MOSSOCKE and the MOSSOCKES have been around in the northern part of Lancashire since the 1200's. Earliest found was a RICHARD of MOSOK IN 1366/67 and HENRY de MOYSOK (MOSOKE) who was Mayor of Lyverpull (Liverpool) from 1416 to 1434.
Within the last year we discovered where MOSSOCKE came from - it is a farm between Aughton and Ormskirk just north of Liverpool and so not far from where the more modern MASSICKS came from ie: my eigth great
