Individual Details
Samuel CONDON
(16 Jun 1785 - Oct 1846)
Original records from Robyn/Lois say born 1778.
Most of the details in this file (GenCircles) have been obtained from D Condon, Frankston, Victoria. Some has also been collected by S Caddy of South Australia. This is information found while the family were in South Australia.
Other information has also been gathered from the Internet and Victorian Births, Deaths and Marriages - Digger records, available from Macbeth Publications. As with most genealogical files, there could be some errors found in this file. Samuel's occupation was labourer and weaver.
William Dampier, born at East Coker in 1651, had sailed to the West Indies and lived in the New World before his voyage to the East Indies and exploration of part of the northern coast of Australia. He found the land unimpressive, but agreed to make further explorations when appointed by the admiralty. He set out in the Roebuck, reaching Shark Bay on the coast of Western Australia in July 1699. Unable to find water, and even more unimpressed by the arid terrain, he returned to England by another vessel after the Roebuck was abandoned as unsafe.
