Walter Snr was a shearer (all his single life, shearing all over New South Wales and into Queeensland). He was a pretty good shearer with the blades, putting out approximately 200 sheep per day well above other shearers. Walter and his mother lived at the Allan's Flat Hotel for a time, before Walter was married. Elizabeth worked at the Allan's Flat Hotel. Walter was Shire President of the Yackandandah Shire and a shire councillor for many years. (Walter Jnr was also a shire councillor and Shire President.) Walter died at a Shire Council meeting on 9th November 1961 after opposing an increase in shire rates. Married Ada Kate Hodgson on 9th April (Easter Monday) 1928 at Allan's Flat, Victoria.
