Individual Details

Marie Elizabeth HARRINGTON

(15 Dec 1914 - 1 Jul 2003)

In a letter of 1998 to Pat Rowell ... "Marie lived on a farm about a mile east of Greeley, CO., when she was growing up, attended high school and college in Greeley. She worked in Greeley for her sister and brother in law clerking in the bakery. Her grandparents (the STEPPS) came to Denver, CO., when Denver was tent city, after a few years in what now is Downtown Denver they moved out to Arvada, CO., where they homesteaded a few sections of land and raised cattle. Later they found a vein of coal and operated a coal mine. Marie's mother was born on this ranch.
When we lived in Fort Collins, Marie worked at a ready to wear dress shop. After we moved to Aurora, CO., she was appointed manager of the school cafeteria. She worked for 10 years until we moved to California due to Stewart's job transfer.
Marie had a problem of fluid in her lungs that antibiotics didn't help, so after a number of tests the doctors said her only cure was open heart surgery. In early April 1993 she had the aorta valve replaced with a titanium valve. "
