    Eleanor Breckenridge Gates
    January 15, 1929 – February 18, 2018
    Eleanor Louise Breckenridge “Ellie” Gates, 89, of Bryan, TX, died peacefully Sunday, February 18, 2018 at her residence. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church in College Station. Life Tribute Cremation Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers Bryan-College Station.
    She was born on January 15, 1929, in Grinnell, IA, to the late Mildred McLain Breckenridge and the late Robert William Breckenridge. Mrs. Gates will be remembered as a woman of faith, service, and family. She married the late Charles Edgar Gates following her graduation from Iowa State University in 1951. Together they raised three daughters and traveled extensively around the United States and the world. She was an active church member throughout her life and frequently took on leadership roles, particularly with United Campus Ministry at A&M Presbyterian Church. She was most recently a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, and she volunteered for Habitat for Humanity for many years. She also loved working in textile arts and was an avid quilter who won numerous ribbons.
    She is survived by her three daughters, Greta Watkins and husband Randy of Bryan, TX, Gail Gates of Stillwater, OK, and Glenda Honea and husband Robert of Danville, VA; by nine grandchildren, Matthew Watkins, Rebecca Watkins Andresen, Jeffrey Gates, Denise Honea Crawford, Phillip Honea, Katie Honea Black, Eleanor Honea, Anna Honea Tremblay and Nathan Honea; and by nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Bruce Breckenridge and wife Mary Alice of Newtown, PA, and her brother-in-law Al Blackburn of Catonsville, MD. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Gates was preceded in death by her twin sister Esther Blackburn and her sister Harriet Turkington and husband Barton.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Covenant Presbyterian Church building fund, Habitat for Humanity, or Hospice of Brazos Valley.
