Thomas Cantrill
(November 1, 1829 - 1864)
"Thomas Cantrill was born at Springfield, Illinois, November 1, 1829, and educated at the Illiois College at Jacksonville. Went to California in 1852 and thence to Dalles, Oregon, where her married Julia Ann Houston, widow of Avery Houston, who was drowned in 1855, and daughter of Captain McFarland, a steamboat captain on the Ohio, and later on the Columbia Rivers. She was born in Richland County, Ohio, May 3, 1835, and was but an infant when her parents moved to Oregon. She died May 15, 1865.
"Thomas Cantrill was interested in mines in the northwest, and in the late fall of 1864, while returning from the gold mines, with six or seven thousand dollars worth of gold dust, the boat in which he was travelling was capsized and he drowned."
