Andrew Jackson Cantrell

"Andrew Jackson (my grandfather, Dewit [D. C.]) and John J. Cantrell enlisted in the Mexican War and were honorably discharged in the year 1848. They each enlisted from the state of Tennessee."
"Andrew Jackson enlisted in the Mexican War, November 6, 1847, for three years or during the duration of the war, Athens, Tennessee, as a Private. He served in Co. H under Capt. Harrison Dill, 5th Reg. Col., Geo. R. McClellan, Tennessee foot Vols. He was discharged at Memphis, Tennessee, July 20, 1848; returned to McMinn County, Tennessee, where he married Ersetty Shelton, December 18, 1848. They resided in Bradley County, Tennessee, for three years; at Washington County, Missouri, for two or three years; Newton County for four years, where his wife Ersetty died, July 1862 and is buried in Newton County, Missouri. He later moved to a farm near Eureka, Kansas, and married Eliza Matilda Barnes, daughter of Thomas Henry and Malinda Ann Deweese Barnes, January 4, 1863, at Eureka, Kansas. They were married by Judge Kinner, also a Minister of the Gospel. Their marriage license is recorded in the courthouse in Eureka, Kansas.
In 1880, the Andrew Jackson Cantrell, Thomas J. Barnes and Jubilee Deweese families, returned to Southwest Missouri. Cantrell and Barnes bought farms on the old wire road south of Cassville; Cantrell near Washburn and Barnes midway between Washburn and Seligman. The Deweeses settled in Newton County, in the Seneca vicinity. In 1880 Andrew Jackson and wife and two sons, Henry and Dave and daughter Nancy Elizabeth moved to a farm, owned by Andrew Cantrell near Southwest City, Missouri, where Andrew died on February 6, 1893, and is buried in Mound Cemetery, south of Afton, Oklahoma."
