Individual Details

Isaac Madison Greear

(January 12, 1838 - May 29, 1898)

"Isaac M. Greear, along with his brother, William B. Greear, was captured in Ohio during the Civil War with General John Morgan and held for some months at Camp Chase, Ohio, then removed to Douglas, Illinois, where William died." (VIRGINIA AND VIRGINIANS by Dr. R. A. Brock, Secretary of the Virginia Historical Society, Vol. II, Published by H. H. Hardesty, Richmond and Toledo, 1888.)

"Isaac Greear's occupation was ranching. One year after his marriage he moved to Texas, then Arkansas, then Oklahoma, where about the year 1899 his daughter died. He then moved to New Mexico where he died blind." (Lois Temple FGS 570.)

(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Isaac's middle name has sometimes been noted as "Mathison." Other sources show he died in Scott County, Virginia. Alan Cates shows Isaac's wife to be Mary J. Womar, rather than Mary Jane Thomas ... this appears to be an incorrect reading.)
