Thomas Allen Kesler

Thomas Allen Kesler entered the U S Army in 1942 and trained at Camp Howze, Texas, Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, and went overseas as Staff Sgt. 333 Reg. Co. E, 84th Infantry Division, 7th Army. Landed at Qmaha Beach on November 5, 1944 and moved across France and Belguim "pulling outpost, patrol, and road b1ock duty. First battle at Grilrnkirchan, Germany, November 18, 1944; second battle Lindern on the Rhone River, February 23, 1945 and the same day was in the battle of Wegburg, Germany. February 27, 1945 in battle of Dulken, Germany - the first electric and water service they ran into still in use. March 4, arrived Hamburg, on the Rhine River. On March 13th at Hamburg was wounded by shell from rocket and lost little finger and tore hand up badly. Went to hospital in France, approximately 70 miles from Paris, for operation on hand. Returned to Unit on VE Day, May 9, 1945. Medals; Purple heart, American theater of Combat, EAME Campaign Medal with 2 bronze stars, Good Conduct, World War II Victory. Separated from Army December 7, 1945 at Camp Fannin, Texas.
