James Gaines

(1742 - 1781)

"James and Ann Gaines were twins. After his marriage, James and Elizabeth moved to North Carolina and he was a Captina in the Revolutionary War, serving with distinction at the head of a Company of Volunteers and was with Washington on the Delaware and Died in Montgomery County, North Carolina. The War Department says he was wounded at Guilford, North Carolina, March 13, 1881, and died in 1881. (This must be a mistake and should be 1781 and 1781.) He is said to have been the father of Gen. Edmund Pendleton Gaines." ("The Gaines Family Tree" typescript.)
