John Jacob Tschudi Sr.

(1715 - )

"JOHN JACOB TSCHUDI, SR. b. ca. 1715 in Frenkendorf, Canton Basel, Switz. He is believed to be the (John) Jakob Tschudi-Tschudy who arrived at the Port of Philadelphia, Pa. on the Sailing Ship "Ann" 9-28-1749 and settled in Baltimore, Md., in 1751, buying a large tract of land on the east side of Baltimore, which he subdivided into lots and acreage. This realty venture was not a success. He sold out and moved in 1760 to York, Pa., where he bought better farming land. He volunteered in 1776 and an "Old Bible Record" of the Johannes Tschudi Family, had this record: "John Jacob Tschudi killed in Action in Amer. Rev." His known son was Martin Tschudi (Tschudy) who served in the Amer. Rev. (See Honor Roll and his affidavit concerning his service). (See Issue of Baltimore American showing historical story and subdivision map. dated Jan. 1, 1893, page 5). A number of our Tschudi - Tschudy - Judah - Judy kin living in Maryland descend from John Jacob Tschudi, Sr., hero of the American Revolution: Park Wheeler Judah of Ridgewood, New Jersey, Marion Francis Wooden of Harrodsburg, Indiana, Harlie Clark (deceased) of Washington, D. C., all descend from John Jacob Tschudi Sr. who was "killed in action" in the American Revolution." (History and Genealogy of the Judy ... Tschudi Family, Marion P. Carlock, page 93.)
