John "Jack" Turney

(April 17, 1831 - May 24, 1870)

John "Jack" Turney remarried in Coryell County, Texas and raised a family. He was the first sherriff of Coryell County, from 1854 to 1858. He served as a teamster during the Civil War. There is a picture of him in the library at Gatesville.

There are various land transactions recorded in Coryell County, Texas Deed Records to John Turney, son of Moses. He owned land on the Leon River near the Bell County line.
