"There is a receipt dated 9 November 1816, for four dollars and twenty-five cents received from William GEER, payment in full for the schooling of Henry Greer for four and one half months at Shiloh School. Signed by Wm Browning, one of the school committee. This record was found in the Greene County Unbound Estate Records, Frame 994 No 305/98 for William Greer 1816. NOTE: The Estate Records in this group are identified for William GREER 1816; I believe that Greer was inadverently written instead of GEER, since most of the records in this file are for William GEER.
1850 CENSUS CHAMBERS COUNTY ALABAMA, H/H 1022 dated 1 June 1850: Henry H Greer, age 42 year old male born in Georgia; Margaret, age 25(?) female born in Georgia; William L, age 12 male born in Georgia (attending school); Fredrick, age 8 male born in Georgia; James E., age 5 male born in Alabama; Sarah E., age 2 female born in Alabama; Robert T., 4 month old male born in Alabama. (On this census record, Grier is the spelling of the surname Greer; but it is my belief that this Henry H. Grier is one of the five orphaned children of James Greer based on the age and state of birth of Henry H and the names of the children.)
"From OGLETHROPE COUNTY PROBATE COURT MARRIAGE VOL No 2, (Original Book A), Dates 1794 - 1832, Georgia Dept of Archives & History, Dr 46, Box 5:" 4015, November 4th Henry H Greer and Sara Ann Nutt. FACT OF CEREMONY. (Recorded page 117, Original Book "A".) Georgia, Oglethrope County. I certify that Henry H. Greer and Sarah Ann Nutt were duly joined in matrimony by me this 6th day of November 1828. /s/ Jack Lumpkin" It is believed that this is Henry Haynes Greer, son of James Greer." (Bea O'Quin.)
