Fred Morgan Gist

(August 27, 1904 - September 15, 1976)

"Morgan graduated in 1932 from Texas Tech with a degree in Geology. In 1944 he invented the "positive centralizer" to meet a pressing need for such an item of oilfield equipment. In 1951 he founded and was president of Gist Oil Tools Inc. of Odessa, Texas. About 1968 he retired to devote time to ranching and other pursuits." (Mary Lightfoot, 1998.)
