Ferdinand Pemberton Hestand

(August 12, 1856 - September 2, 1944)

"Ferd Hestand was an evangalist for the Chruch of Christ. It is said that when he was born, his father brought a new Bible home and presented it to his wife and told her "Make a preacher out of my son". He did become a preacher, but it was not a lucrative career, and the family had financial hard times. He would travel to distant places to hold revival meetings, and often was paid with goods instead of money. On one occasion his pay was a new overcoat, another time it was a new horse and buggy. Family finances were scarce indeed. Ferd was also a farmer." (Mary Lightfoot, 1998.)
