Wilson Turner "Dick" "Red" Embry

(February 1, 1920 - December 1, 2000)

"Uncle Red Embry was still living on the old Embry farm west of Abernathy when Judia and I visited him in October 1993. He was still living in the four room house that he, Juanita and Sis built about 1955. His sisters, Eula and Joyce and their families were there visiting with him and pulling peanuts. We had a good visit, as I had not seen him since Dad and Mom and I visited him in Lubbock in 1965, when I was attending Texas Tech University. He had farmed until 1991, when he leased his land out. Much of his land was in a government program. He seemed spry as ever, but somehow more frail than I remembered him, from the viewpoint of a child. He had married a second time, divorced, but was still visiting his ex-wife, who was then living in Oklahoma City, and (as he put it) they got along just fine, while they weren't married." (Ralph Terry, October 1993)
