Isaac Cantrell

"Isaac Cantrell was born in New Castle County, Pennsylvania (now Delaware), about 1745, and went with his parents to Rockingham County, North Carolina, where he married Nancy _______. He is the only one of John Cantrell's twenty-one sons who has descendants of the name still living in that county (in 1900).
"Rockingham County was taken from Guilford County in 1785. Previous to that time, the records were at Guilford County Court House, which was, unfortunately, destroyed by fire during the Civil War and all records were lost. About 1788, however, it is recorded in a very old Baptist Church record that Isaac Cantrell was an itinerant minister serving the Baptist Church at Matrimony Creek, Strawberry District, without pay. This is the first record of a minister in the Cantrell family in America.
"His name appears on the pay rolls at Raleigh, North Carolina as serving in the War for American Independence from the Salisbury District. He died (in 1804) in (what is now known as) Warren County, Tennessee at the home of one of his sons, several of them having settled in that state." J. F. Cantrell's records show Isaac Cantrell to have died in White County, Tennessee, and that his son, John moved to Warren County, Tennessee.
