Individual Details

Robert Rowland

(Abt, 1715 - January, 1782)

Robert Rowland's will was made 16 June 1777. He died January 1782; will probated in Botetourt County, Virginia, February 1782. (Will Book A, page 159.) Will named sons George, Thomas, James, and William, deceased. Indian War 1742. (Information based on research done by Mary Rowland of Sequim, Washington. She believes that our Robert Rowland was not a son of Christopher Rowland as reported in THE ROWLAND FAMILY (author unknown); but was probably a son of William III, wife not known at this time; Christopher and William III being brothers, and sons of William Rowland II (born 1660 James City County, Virginia) and Ann Spencer, daughter of Robert Spencer, Sheriff).

Robert Rowland will probated February 1782, Botetourt County, Virginia. Names children: James, Thomas, George, and heirs of deceased son, William (only one named was Robert). (OVER THE MOUNTAIN MEN by Worrell, page 49.)

Will witnessed by: James Hutchison, James Mull, Robert Burdwell, John Jackson. Executors: Sons James Rowland and Thomas Rowland. (note: James possibly oldest living son. George mentioned next but not made executor. Had he moved away from Boutetourt before 1777? Was William killed during Revolutionary War and that was the reason for Robert making his will at this time in order to provide for William's children?)
