Family notes taken by Roy Kemper on a trip to Elsberry in the 1950s states James was born Aug. 6, 1868; he also states James' middle name was "Hammack" not Henderson as appears in the KEMPER BOOK. The Kemper Book gives his death date as 18 July 1868, which is incorrect. His tombstone reads: "James H., son of French and Jane Kemper, died July 18, 1885, aged 16 years, 11 months." If accurate, his tombstone would indicate his birthdate would have been in August 1969.
