(December 8, 1863 - December 27, 1962)

"Following a long period of declining health, Mrs. Anna Watts, Elsberry's oldest resident, passed to life eternal at 4:30 p. m. on Decmeber 27, 1962, at the venerable age of 99 years and 19 days. Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, the Reverned (sic) Arthur Bennett, at Ricks Funeral Home at two o'clock in the afternoon of Saturday, December 29, in the presence of a concourse of relatives and friends. Interment was made in the Elsberry City Cemetery by the side of her beloved husband, who preceded her in death in 1950.

"Anna Eliza Kemper, one of four children of the late French and Jane Luckett Kemper, pioneer settlers of Lincoln county, was born on December 8, 1863, at the Kemper homestead about two and one half miles west of Elsberry, now resided in by Mr. and Mrs. John Howard. Her marriage to William W. Watts, of New Hope, took place on January 10, 1880. Of this union five children were born. The first child, a son, died in infancy and another son, Russell, passed away in 1948. Those who live to cherish the memory of a loving mother are: Clarence of Troy, Grace (Mrs. W. E. Long) of Elsberry, and Howard of Overland. ALso surviving are three daughters-in-law, one son-in-law and four grandchildren namely: Darlene Kemper, of Troy, Dorothy Ringhausen, of Mineapolie, Minn., Wm. R. Watts, of Lombard, Ill., and Margaret Ann Watts, of Elsberry; six great grandchildren; five nieces and one nephew, all of Texas, the children of her late brother, W. O. Kemper.

"Mrs. Watts confessed and united with the First Christian Church, of Elsberry, in August 1893 and remained a steadfast member all of her life. She was a gentle mother, a kind neighbor and home loving and devoted the greater portion of her long life to her family. From the year 1910 to 1954, the Watts home was maintained on North Third street. In the year of 1952, Mrs. Watts went to live with her daugher and son-in-law, who tenderly cared for her during her long illness. Those who carried her to her last resting place included J. V. Whiteside, Waldo Fischer, Sammy Barnes, George Phillips and Wilbert Beauchamp, of Elsberry, and Jack Jones of Clarksville." (Obituary of Mrs. Anna Watts, Elsberry newspaper clipping.)
