Andrew Jackson "A. J." Hoover Jr.

(May 31, 1934 - May 25, 2007)

"The real A. J. Hoover - One of the few things a man carries with him from birth to death is his name. I am proud of my name, and I have tried to make every effort to not tarnish it. I use the name that is on my birth certificate (yes, initials only). I feel I have a right to my name. I was born in Abilene, attended Valley View, South Junior High and graduated from Abilene High and McMurry. I worked here until my retirement last year. For many years my late father was the only Hoover in the Abilene telephone directory. To this day I am the only A .J. Hoover listed there. People who know me know I am not easily angered. However, after BB shots through two windows, telephone calls at all hours of the day and night wishing to discuss "what you wrote" or "what you said," being accused of not returning books to a local university library that I have never even visited and now phone calls of "Heil Hitler," I want your readers to know I am not the A. J. Hoover who writes frequent letters to the editor, and I am appealing to the author to use his full name. A. J. HOOVER, 1461 Minter Lane, Abilene, Texas." (Abilene Reporter News, Abilene, Texas, February 10, 1998.)
