William Casper Lewis

"William Casper Lewis came to Navarro County, Texas from Kentucky in approximately 1856. He married Mary Elizabeth Strait from Navarro or Henderson County, Texas, and moved to Groveton, Texas in 1893. He bought 4.7 acres from Mrs. L.A. Cook January 4, 1894, located one-half mile south of Groveton on the headwaters of Kickapoo Creek. In March 25, 1898, he sold the above property to J. J. Baker and bought 191.3 acres from J. J. Bakers and wife Clementine on the same date, with the sum of $700.00 and $600.00 to be paid in three $200.00 notes, payable per year. This land was located on Fountain Creek, Trinity County. This transaction is recorded in the Trinity County courthouse. This property was called the old Lewis home place and was sold to Jim Bob Dunaway and his wife Irene in the 1940's." (W. T.
