Moses Greer

"Moses married a Mrs. Charlton. Her maiden name was Catherine Pollard. She was a daughter of Chattin D. Pollard who married Molly Greer, his father's sister." (GENEALOGY OF THE GREER FAMILY by Joseph Hampton Greer, page 2; repeated in PIONEER FAMILIES OF FRANKLIN COUNTY, VIRGINIA, 1935 by Marshall Wingfield, page 86.)
(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Torrence shows that Moses Greer married Polly Greer, as does Gayle Kellam, Rt 2, Box 63, Pegram, Tennessee 37143, as per ROYAL HERITAGE OF THE GREERS, 1982 by Carolyn Beal, pages 168A - 168F. She would had the maiden name "Greer" or married to a Greer, possibly Walter Talley Greer first. However, from the above references, there is little question that Moses married, Polly, the daughter of Chattin D. and Molly (Greer) Pollard, unless Wingfield had the wives of Moses and Walter confused. Because of the marriage dates and death dates, it does not appear that Polly Pollard married both brothers, Moses and Walter Talley Greer, but probably only Moses. So, who was the Mary "Polly" Greer that Walter married? Birth, death and marriage dates for Mary "Polly" Greer and additional descendants of this family from ROYAL HERITAGE OF THE GREERS, 1982 by Carolyn Beal, pages 168A - 168F.)
