Darrell Franklin Sigmon

(February 13, 1935 - )

"Darrell Sigmon served in the U. S. Navy for four years aboard the USS Sumner, DD-696, which spent time in Korean waters. Darrell wrote to this researcher, "I had an around-the-world cruise while in the Navy ... crossed the equator and became a 'Shellback' and a Golden Dragon.' " Darrell now resides in Brunswick, Ohio, and is employed by the NASA Space Program. He wrote that he is "in the research end ... work we do is one to four years in the future." Much to the envy of this author, Darrell was given a certificate with an American flag that had been on one of the space shuttles. When not researching, Darrell is busy with community affairs. He is a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and also Zoning Inspector for Brunswick Township. He didn't get too far away from his roots for he owns 140 acres in Monroe COunty, West Virginia, where he says that even though the county seat in Union, "We don't ever tell them that they are not part of the South, as is evidenced by the rededication of Confederate monument this summer." Interestingly, Darrell's father gave him a medal that their ancestor Joseph Sigmon received when attending a reunion of Confederate Veterans."
