William David "Billy David" Greer

(June 6, 1830 - January 21, 1896)

"In the papers of the administration of Sarah Greer's estate, her son, William signed a receipt of delivery from the Southern Express Company, dated 25 February 1881, signed Wm Greer, Dexter, Texas. This receipt shows that William Greer received $134.10 from Robert E. Davidson, administrator of Sarah's estate, which was William's portion of her estate. After receiving information from Mary Douglass that her William David "Billy" Greer lived near Dexter in Cooke County, Texas, I connected William Greer, son of Aquilla Greer and Sarah Sayers as being the same William Greer. It appears very evident to me that her William was the son of Aquilla Greer (1799 - 1879) and Sarah "Sally" Sayers Greer (1804 - 1879). From the 1850 Greene County, Georgia census, Aquilla's son, William Greer is shown as age 21 in Georgia, so he would have been born about 1829, approximately the same age and birth state as the William D. Greer of Mary Douglass. So, putting Sarah Greer's estate papers showing her William Greer in Dexter, Cooke County, Texas in 1879, and Mary's information showing her William Greer coming to Cooke County, Texas about 1873, I have no doubt they are the same person. Until this time no descendant's of Aquilla's son, William, had been found." (Ralph Terry, August 2006.)
