Basil "Manuel" Hymer

(1824 - Abt, 1866)

"Basil Hymer was a surveyor for the government and was reported to have been killed in an Indian raid near St. Joe, Montague County, Texas. He had moved his family from Georgia to Hooks, Bowie County, Texas between 1850-1860. He was not in the Lumpkin County, Georgia 1860 Census. As per Warren Cantrell; Basil's brother, Bill Hymer married Margaret, Josephine's sister. Bill and Margaret came to Bowie County, Texs at the same time Basil and Josephine did. According to Agnes Ellison, Basil died during the Civil War, while home on leave from eating bad pork.
