Information on the Haynes family from the following sources: HISTORICAL SOUTHERN FAMILIES, Vol. XVIII, in the article, "Haynes of Southside Virginia," pages 67 - 170, published by The Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., Baltimore, 1973; birth and death dates of Henry and his wife are from the Bible of his son, Parmenas Haynes, which was in the possession (as late as 1964) of Miss Ella May Thornton, State Librarian in the State Capitol, Atlanta, Georgia in 1942; SOME DESCENDANTS OF HENRY HAYNES, b. 1701 by Julia Clare, 1965.

"Henry Haynes will, dated March 5, 1784, was proven December 23, 1784, mentions all his children by name and to whom married." (GREAR - GREER - GREERE - GRIER by Robert M. Torrence, A.B., F.G.S.P., F.I.A.G; 110 Edgevale Road, Baltimore 10, Maryland, page 27. NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Torrence says, "This account (of the Haynes and Greer information) was sent to the compiler by Mr. Sylvester Greer, of Dixiana, Alabama, who secured it from Mr. Duke Wright Greer, of Holly Springs, Mississipi, who, in turn, received it from Mr. James Micajah Greer, an attorney of Memphis, Tennessee. Not deviating from the facts, the compiler has consolidated these scattered details and arranged them into the format shown.")
