1930 Lincoln County, Missouri census, Hurricane Township, District 11, Dwelling/Family #143/152, taken April 21, 1930: Amanda BLAIR, head, owned home, $1200, female, negro, 65, widow, can read and write, Missouri, Missouri, Virginia; Theodore BLAIR, son, male, negro, single, Missouri, Missouri, Missouri, can read and write, Emily DORSAY, aunt, female, negro, 103, widow, cannot read or write, Virginia, Virginia, Virginia. (Next door was living Johna Kemper, Amanda's brother, as a boarder with William STEELE, age 58.)
"As a child, I remember Amanda Blair. Her home was at the top of the hill on Highway JJ, up from Highway 79. It was a large two story house that sat right on top of the hill. The next house west was the home of Law Blair and as a child I played ball and etc. with Wilford, Kenny, Bobby and I don't remember if there were other children. They were children of Law Blair. There were at least 7 houses along that little dirt road. The Government Nursery bought these houses out in the later thirties. In all probability Amanda and Robert Blair are buried at the location of the old Negro Church, which was 4 or 5 miles out on Highway JJ. When I was younger, most Negroes were buried there. As a child I remember Amanda as an albino, with white-grey skin color and pinkish eyes, but sometimes a child's memory is questionable." (Sammy Mayes, Elberry, Missouri, 2005.)
"Burial Permit for Amanda Blair, 79 of Elsberry, Missouri." (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis, Missouri, Wednesday, October 6, 1943, page 12A.)
