"Charles William Cantrell was educated at public and private schools. He moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1889, where he was connected with the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. In 1893 he went west, where he spent two years, returning to Louisville in 1895, when he removed to New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1897 he was appointed soliciting freight agent of the Knoxville, Cumberland Gap & Louisville Railroad Company and in January 1900, was appointed travelling freight agent of the Southern Railway, Knoxville, Tennessee. On July 1, 1900, he was transferred to the same position as southern manager of the Provident Lumber Company of Philadelphia, with headquarters at Tifton, Georgia. On July 1, 1904, he resigned to accept a position as general eastern sales agent of Herman H. Hettler Lumber Company, Chicago, with headquarters at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, where he now resides.
