James Cantrell

(Abt, 1789 - Abt, 1850)

"James Cantrell went with his parents to Tennessee, where he married Kizzie Cantrell. He had a finger shot off in the Seminole War." (THE CANTRILL - CANTRELL GENEALOGY, 1908 by Susan Cantrill Christie, page 116.)

"James Cantrell was born 1789 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. He moved to Tennessee with his parents in 1806, settling in Warren County, where he married Keziah "Kezzie" Cantrell in about 1813. She was born in 1786 in South Carolina and was probably a descendant of Isaac or James Cantrell.

"James was with Andrew Jackson when he led a force of 3000 men against the Seminole Indians who rode against the whites in teh First Seminole Wars (1816 - 1818). He lost a finger in this action. In 1830, James and his family were living with his aged father and mother. In 1850, their widowed daughter, Martha, was living with them. James died in the 1850's. In 1860, Keziah was living with their son, James and his family in DeKalb County. Keziah probably died in the 1860's." (CANTRELL - CANTRILL by Horace Elbert Cantrell, 1972, page 405A.)
