Lemuel Newman

(January 19, 1799 - May 23, 1851)

"In Superior Court, Baldwin County, Georgia, we see that Frances Newman sues for divorce. Ruie Nisi, October 10 1842, defendant not to be found in county, was ordered served by publication. By that time, Lemuel Newman is listed on the 1840 US census for Chambers County, Alabama." (THE LONG TREK OF THE NEWMAN FAMILY, 1683 - 1980, by Samuel William Newman, page 32.) (NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Samuel W. Newman thought the Lemuel Newman who married Frances E, Bonner on September 22, 1831 in Warren County, Georgia was the son of Samuel Newman and Eve Castleberry, but other researchers know that Lemuel Newman married Mary Martha Malpass. It is thought by some researchers that the Lemuel Newman who married Frances E, Bonner is the son of Samuel Newman and Mary Ann Lovett. I am not sure which Lemuel Newman in shown in the 1840 Chambers County, Alabama census.)

1850 Ouachita Parish, Louisiana census, page 488B, Dwelling/Family 113/117: Lemuel NEWMAN, 50, m, farmer, $30,000 Real Estate, Ga; Phinetta NEWMAN, 50, f, Ga.
