Ernest Jefferson "Bud" Terry

(May 18, 1895 - February 9, 1951)

"Ernest was in World War I and when he came home to Gainesville about 1918, there was a girl that was intent on getting involved with a good looking man in uniform. She had a child and named him Ural Ernest Terry. I carefully checked all the sources and find that no one believes the boy belonged to Ernest. But his mother raised him with the name and he is now grown and lives in San Leandro, California and is married, and should be about 60 - 65 now. He and his wife, visited Loyce and me in Fort Worth and he called us Aunt and Uncle, which is all right by me. They have no children at this time and don't suppose they will. I was in Gainesville in October 1983 and again brought up the subject with some old friends of the family and was told again that no one thought the child belonged to Ernest Terry, but that the mother was quite poor and illiterate and that Ernest Terry left town and went north and never came back. Most of the Terry men that I have ever seen were quite small and of small stature, this man is as big as a bear and has no features of any Terry that I ever saw, but anyhow if you ever see or hear about Ural Ernest Terry, that is the score." (Wilma Terry, 1984.)
