George Younger Jr.

(December 2, 1919 - June 30, 2003)

"George was born in Clifton, Arizona on December 2, 1919 and went to rest on June 30, 2003. He was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters. George grew up in Clifton, Metcalf, Morenci, Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona. On February 13, 1941 he joined the Navy and served during World War II as an aviation mechanic for several naval aviation squadrons aboard the Aircraft Carriers Saratoga and Hornet. After leaving the Navy he took an aviation mechanic course through Cal-Aero Technical Institute in Glendale, California and graduated with a Master Aviation Mechanic degree. Upon his graduation from Cal-Aero he was employed for 33 years by United Airlines based in San Francisco, California as a lead aviation mechanic. Upon retirement in 1982, he moved to San Diego, California until 1987 when he returned to Tucson, Arizona to be closer to his two remaining sisters. George's passions were ballroom dancing and aeronautics (building and flying radio controlled and glider airplanes), participating in both activities as often as he could. Uncle George is survived by four generations of loving nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed. Private memorial services will be held." (Arizona Daily Star online newspaper archive.)
