"Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Odell, 63, who died May 13, the day after coming to Kern County from Chino, were conducted at the graveside in Union cemetery at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon, with the Reverend J. D. Page officiating. Hopson Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Odell was the wife of J. W. Odell, and was a native of Oklahoma." (Obituary, local newspaper clipping, May 15, 1937.)
