Aquilla Greer Stuart
(February 19, 1823 - August 7, 1899)
"Aquilla Greer Stuart came to Arkansas ca. 1849 and was a brother of Robert Boling Stuart, and was born 19 February 1823, Clarke County, Georgia, died 7 August 1899, Prescott (Nevada County), Arkansas. On 24 August 1843 in Chambers County, Alabama, he married Emily B. Jordan, daughter of Garrett Jordan, originally of South Carolina and Dutch descent. They had eight children, only four of whom lived to maturity: Isaac Henry, Edward Gant, James Lawrence, and Lula Catherine. The oldest son, Isaac, married Josephine Huffman, daughter of Elias Huffman of Clark County. During the Civil War, Aquilla enlisted in the Confederate Army, serving as Captain. A prisoner of war, he was broken in health and fortune when the war ended. He was a Baptist and helped build at least three Baptist churches. His wife, Emily, preceded him in death by two years." Aquilla Greer Stuart was a confederate soldier. He joined the Baptist Church in 1843. Marriage Record from Mrs. Caddo Durham, granddaughter, now deceased (1987).
