"Oliver Scott Preiss, 60, Kansas City, passed away Saturday morning, June 7, 2014, in Kansas City.
"Scott was born June 21, 1953. A native of Pacific, Scott, as he was called by family and friends, was a graduate of Missouri State University and earned a master's in TESOL at the University of Central Missouri. Scott's creative mind led him to pursue his life's passions including music, language, writing, and traveling the world teaching English.
"He was a lifelong recycler and repurposer, creating incredible sculptures and unique furniture. Scott specialized in restoring grand pianos. He also repurposed vintage pianos of all kinds. All who knew him will miss his wicked sense of humor and his gift for story telling.
"Scott is survived by his wife, Joy Preiss; their beloved dog, Sasha; his mother, Jessie Preiss; one sister, Ellan Pund and husband Cliff; two brothers, Frank Preiss and Jeff Preiss and wife Darla; numerous nieces; nephews; in-laws E.J. Foster and wife Virginia.
"Scott was preceded in death by his father, Oliver O. Preiss.
"Cremation will be followed by a family memorial at a later date.
"Those wishing to honor Scott's life and memory may make donations to Jewish Vocational Service, 1608 Baltimore St., Kansas City, MO 64108, or Kansas City Hospice. "
