"Spencer resident and Van Buren County native Homer Cleveland (Cleve) Hillis, 83, died March 14 at Columbia River Park Hospital after an extended illness. A retired supervisor of highway maintenance with the Van Buren County Highway Department, a coal miner for 20 years and a member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of Ruben T. and Della Roberts Hillis and was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Johnson Hillis in 1974; two brothers, James Marion and B.B. Hillis; and one sister, Nora Jane Hillis. He is survived by five sons, Donald T., Stanley, Douglas, James Hugh and Marty Hillis, all of Spencer; three daughters, Glenna Kay ____ of Sparta, Sue Grissom of Campaign and Sharon Shockley of Spencer; one brother, Jake Hillis of Spencer; 18 grandchildren and __ great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at High's Chapel with Billy ___ and Titus Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Shockley Cemetery in Van Buren County.
