Robert Allen Hebel Jr.

"R.A. Hebel Jr. Robert Allen Hebel, Jr., age 19, was dead on arrival at the Shackelford County Memorial Hospital on July 9, 1974. He was killed in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 10:00 at the Church of Christ, Keith Schinnerer will officiate. Burial will be under the direction of Godfrey Funeral Home. He was born March 16, 1955 in Lamb County. He moved here from Throckmorton three months ago and was employed by the Vintage Home Builders in Breckenridge. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allen Hebel of the Caldwell Ranch; two brothers, Danny Lynn and Gary Lee; two sisters, Ina Loraine and Cynthia Lane, all of the home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Hawley of Slaton, and paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ina Webster of Littlefield. Pallberarers will be Bily Gene Morrison, Harold Vick, Steve Riley, Lee Garcia, Rusty Harris and Bill King." "TWO VEHICLE COLLISION RESULTS IN TRAGIC DEATHS TUESDAY NIGHT - Allen Hebel, 19 year old Albany youth, was killed in a two vehicle collision on U.S. 283 north of Albany. Hebel's car hit a pickup driven by Paul Ibanez, 66, of McAllen. Ibanez and Hebel were both prnounced D.O.A. at Shackelford County Hospital Tuesday night. The accident occured at approximately 8:30pm about six miles north of Albany with the Hebel car traveling south and the Ibanez pickup headed north. Ibanez was accompanied by his wife and two grandchildren. Christina Denise Ibanez, 4: and Stephen Edward Ibanez, 6: of Oklahoma City. They apparently were returning their grandchldren to Oklahoma City. Mrs. Ibanez was in good condition in the Shackelford Hospital Wednesday afternoon. The two children were treated and released Tuesday night. Both drivers were pinned in their vehicles by the impact with the pickup overturning, spilling debris along the highway. The young boy was found under the pickup engine of the overturned vehicle coated with oil and grime, but virtually unharmed. Mrs. Ibanez and the girl were momentarily trapped before Mrs. Ibanez dug her way out and pulled the girl free. Hebel's car, a 1967 Pontiac, did not overturn but left him pinned for 30 minutes before being freed." (Albany News article Thursday, July 11, 1974.)
