"Elbert S. Hurt, Jr, 63, 1652 Pineola Ave., died Wednesday afternoon at Holston Valley Community Hospital. A native of Virginia, he had lived in Kingsport most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U. S. Navy, a member of Colonial Heights Eagles Arie No. 3274, and a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians and conductor of the Kingsport Symphony Orchestra in the late 1940's. He was former band director at Tennessee High School, Bristol, and played with the Jerry King band. He was employed by F. J. Brownell and Sons as a realtor at the time of his death. He was founder and member of Kingsport Board of Realtors, and served two terms as its president. He was a member of the state and national Association of Realtors, and was a founder of the multiple listings service. Carter's Chapel Funeral Home is in charge." (Obituary, Lois Temple FGS 429.)
