He is listed as William Finchum (or Fincham or Flinchum) in various records. His father used Fincham in Virginia and Flinchum as their surname sometimes in Virginia and from his beginnings in North Carolina. William is listed as Fincham, Flinchum, and Finchum in Washington County, Tennessee records. After he located in Cocke County, Tennessee, the name is consistently Finchum." (Fred Eggleston.)
