"The Rev. D. O. Horne, pastor of the Monticello baptist church, had part in the funeral services for Mr. Ham held on the afternoon of December 26 at the Goodwater Baptist Church near Magee, home of Mr. Ham. Mr. Ham, a prominent Simpson County farmer, was born and reared in Monticello and lived here for some years. He was a member of the Baptist church, a mason and a member of the Eastern Star. A veteran of World War Two, he served nine years in the armed forces, three of these in China." (Excerpt from obituary, Lawrence County Press, 3 January 1952.)
