"James A. Dunn was the oldest child of George W. and Harriett York Dunn. He was born in Missouri and found there for the 1880 census with his parents and siblings. James would have been about 11 years old when his father decided to move from Missouri to Texas. During the trip, someplace on the bank of White River in Arkansas, his mother gave birth to a stillborn child and died herself. The mother and child were simply buried on the river bank and the remaining family members moved on. It is not exactly known where they were for some years, but are eventually found in Garvin County, Indian Territory where the father is remarried and has a new family. James A. Dunn then married Virginia Louise McCarty and raised a family of four daughters and a son in Garvin County, Indian Territory which became Oklahoma. Virginia died, James died and the son, Frank, all died within a year in 1926. The remaining children were in the care of their grandfather McCarty, who had remarried after his first wife had died. Kay Dunn remained in Garvin County, but Grace, Irey, and Stellen all soon left the area never to return for any length of time." (Dorothy Boynton, 2013.)
