Cloyd Braton Sersain Jr

(February 10, 1918 - January 13, 1946)

"Cloyd Braton Sersain, Jr attended elementary school in Seattle, Washington, High School at Ontario, Oregon and Caldwell, Idaho. He enlisted in World War I, US Army in March 1941 and served under Generals Douglas McArthur and Jonathan Wainwright on Corregidore, Philippine Islands until it fell on May 7, 1942. He spent the next three and a half years in Japanese prisons in the Philippines and Japan, most of the time in hospitals suffering from beri beri, dysentary and inhumanities of prison camps. He lost all of his toes from beri beri and was blind most of the time from starvation and malnutrition. It was only through prayer and grace of God he lived through to return home to his parents and family of Caldwell, Idaho, where he died just two weeks later. He was unmarried, a member of the Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church of Caldwell." (Peggy Faulkner Sersain, 1963 as per Lois Temple FGS 359.)
