"Johnnie Brooke Retires - Johnnie Brooke ended his career with the Germania Claims Department with over 24 years of service. Johnnie began as a state adjuster and retired as an Area Claims Supervisor. Johnnie plans to spend time with his wife, Libby, the children, and grandchildren. "Johnnie Ray Brooke passed peacefully from this life on the morning of June 20, 2006 at his home in Bangs, following a short illness. He was 68 years young. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend that will truly be missed by all. Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Bangs, Texas on Friday, June 23, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early. Interment will be in the Bangs Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites. Visitation will be today (Thursday, June 22, 2006) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He was born December 15, 1937 in Santa Anna. He was the only son of Joe C. and Gracie Terry Brooke. He married Libby Graves on September 1, 1956 in the Buffalo Community. Johnnie worked in the dairy business with his dad during their first few years of marriage. After brief careers in the oil field and aircraft manufacturing, Johnny and Libby owned and operated J & L Variety Store in Bangs for several years. Johnnie went to work for Germania Insurance in 1974, retired 25 years later in 1999, and continued with his favorite hobby of farming and ranching until his passing. Johnnie was a member of the First Baptist Church and a 32 Degree Mason with the Masonic Lodge of Bangs. He was currently president of the Bangs Cemetery Association. He served on the Bangs ISD school board from 1972-1975. He was very active with the Brown County Youth Fair serving as co-chairman of the swine division while his children were in school. Johnnie was also a member of the Snak Shak Coffee Club which he cherished very much. During his spare time he enjoyed traveling with his devoted wife, and also sharing times with the joys of his life, his children and his grandchildren. Johnnie (Pap Pu) was an avid Electra Tiger Fan, Olney Cub Fan and Bangs Dragon Fan as he watched his grandchildren participate in sports. Johnnie leaves behind his wife Libby of 49 years; one son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Kimberly Brooke, their children Kayla and Joey of Bangs; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Mark Newton, their children, Cody and Cristen of Electra; and Chad and Haley Newton of Dallas; a daughter and son-in-law, Beckie and Ronnie Purcell, their children, Joshua and Benjamin of Bangs; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and John Sykora, their children Terri, John, Clancey, Brooke and Hunter of Olney; one sister and brother-in-law Charlsie and Bill Richardson of Cross Cut; a brother-in-law and wife, David and Joyce Graves of Granbury; a brother-in-law and wife Wilburn and Shirley Graves of Fort Worth; one sister-in-law, Mickie Waren of Fort Worth; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe C. and Gracie Brooke; and one sister, Billie Sparks.
