Visitation for Helen Martha Hock begins today at Mish Funeral Home, 120 Minner Ave., from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 4th, at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery. Helen went home to celebrate Jesus' Birthday on December 25, 2006. She was born on February 20, 1921 in Oklahoma. Helen "Biggin" came from a large family and helped raise her younger siblings while her father and mother worked in the fields. Before moving to California she met and married her husband of over 50 years, LeRoy Hock. After settling in Bakersfield they raised their 4 children. Helen worked for Bliss' Market in Oildale for many years before retiring. She was a very strong, proud and loving mother, grandmother and friend. Family and home were her greatest sources of happiness. She was admired by those who knew her for her immaculate appearance. She loved shopping and working in her yard before Alzheimer's robbed her of the joys of life. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Ida Mae Mathis; husband, LeRoy Hock; brothers, Gerald and Bob Mathis; and sister, Dorothy Cross. She is survived by her brothers, Jack, Mac and Rex Mathis; and sister, Bernice Henson; children, Jack and Beverly Hock, Larry and Carole Hock, Sharon and Jim Boen and Kenneth Hock; 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Alzheimer's Association, Laura and Jackie at the Shafter Convalescent Home and to the many friends and family for their love, support and prayers during this long and difficult journey.
