DEATH: David's son Thomas stated in his Pension records; that his father David had died prior to the family moving to Rutherford, North Carolina. DEATH: Will: 1815 May 1: Stokes Co., North Carolina: Will Book 3, pg. 44. BURIAL: Stokes Co., North Carolina in Snow Creek Cemetery. Notes: On the 1800 census, David is listed as head of household, with the following: Males: 10 10-16 16-26 26-45 >45 Females: 10 10-16 16-26 26-45 >45 1 0 0 0 1 2 1 4 2 1 This household is much larger than would be expected for David's known children, some of the females in the house must be other relatives.

Albemarle County Deeds, 1772-1776, pg 164-164: 14 Aug 1772, David Dalton bought from Richard Poindexter and wife Betty, for 35 pounds, 275 acres in Parish of Fredericksville, Albemarle County, on North Fork of James River. Albemarle County Deeds, 1772-1776, pg 516-518: 13 May 1776, David Dolton and Susannah his wife of Albemarle sold to William Sampler for 90 pounds, 400 acres in Albemarle County. Signed David Dolton; wit Isaac Davis, Jacob Watts, Leonard Davis, William Fretwell. probed in Jun Court 1776, John Nicholas, clk.

David Dalton was born ca. 1742 and served in the Revolutionay army under General Wasington. David bought land in Stokes County as early as 1779 and was living in Stokes by 1785. He married Susan Davis, daughter of Isaac Davis and Sarah Winston.

1781: David Dalton served as Minuteman of Albemarle Co., VA Militia under Capt. Nicholas Lewis, during whole term of Rev. War. Made a Capt. in 1781at Yorktown according to family records, no offical records to that effect. David was a prominent land owner in Albemarle County Virginia. He was well connected to such friends as James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and Dr. Thomas Walker the explorer. Some of David's land deeds were signed by Thomas Jefferson, and members of the Thornton family, cousins of George Washington, another close friend of David.

Patrick County Deeds: David Dalton and Susanna his wife, of Patrick Co., Va. Sells land to Benjamin Robison of Albemarle Co., Va. dated 3 Sept 1793.

David bought land in Stokes County North Caroline about 1779, and moved there about 1785. His first wife died there. In Dec 1812 David remarried, the widow Eleanor Goode Martin.

Will of David Dalton recorded in Will Book 3 page 44, written 1 May 1815, Probated Jun 1820: Mentions sons David, Jonathan, Charles, Isaac, sons-in law John F. Carr & wife Elizabeth, Absolem Bostick & wife Nancy, Thomas Carr (no wife named). Exec: 'friends' Thomas T. Armstrong and Jeremiah Gibson. Wit: William Good (Goad) and Benjamin Young.

The first reference in Albemarle Co to David Dalton appears to be when he and his wife, Susannah, sell 400 acres of land to William Sumpter on 30 May 1777. This may be land has not been traced to my knowledge.

I David Dalton Sr of Stokes County in the State of North Carolina do make my last will and testament. 1. before my marriage with my present wife intered into a contract or agreement with her as to our natural interest in the estates. I give and bequeath to her fifty dollars being her dower & distribtive share in or out of my estate. 2. I hereby ratify to my sons respectfully the title and to all the negroes and their increase both before and after the day and the date hereof which I have hereafter ut onto and which now are in their possesion. 3. to son David a tract of land which I bought of William Watson containing 100 acres and adjoining the land of which I now live heretofor given.. to said David by deed of gift.. 4. to my son Jonathan my negro slaves Peter, Ben & Patty & her increasse & children which he now has or may have between the day of the date hereof and my death. 5. to son Charles my negro slaves Sam, Hannah, & her two sons Joe & Frank and all such other increase .. also 450 dollars to be paid out of the residue of my estate. 6. to my son-in-law John Fendal Carr the negro slaves Charles, Joe, Jim and Jess being the children of Cate whom I put in his possesion also the negroes Frank, Tildy, Riddle, Horace, Simon, Aaron & Tangar and all such increase during the term of the natural heris of him and his wife Elizabeth and of the surviver at their death. I give and bequeath the said negroes and said increase to the children of the said Elizabeth who may be living at the time of her death absolutely. 7. to my son in law Absolm Bostick the negro woman Amy whom I put in his possesion many years ago and her increase and all such increase. Also little George the son of Desse now in my possesion likewise the negro slaves jeffery, Nann and the children of Nann and the increase. His wife Nancy and the survivor and their deaths I give and bequeath the said negros. 8. to said Absolum Bostick my faithful old servant Pegg more as a charity to her than a benifit to him. 9. Son in law Thomas Carr the negro woman Lott whom I put in his possesion many years ago. Also Yellow Frank and her children Sampson & Lewis and each other increase, during the term of the minority of his children John Fendal & Nancy. At arrival at full age of his said children or his death I give the said negroes and said increase to my said granchildren John Fendal & Nancy absolutely and the survivor of them or the one of them that shall qualify or to my administrator I give negroes Farr & her children now born Big George & Wilson and such other increase, arrive at full age or one many at which time the whole sum shall be divided equally between them. 10. The residue of my estate both real and personal to my executors or the survivor of them pay just debts. To my son Charles Dalton four hundred dollars, the rest equally divided btween my sons Isaac, Charles, Jonathan, & David my sons in law John Fendal Carr & Absolm Bostick and my granchildren John Fendal & Nancy children of Thomas Carr they only taking one part to be shared among them. 11. 1. DAVID1 DALTON, SR. was born Bet. 1730 - 1735 and lived in Albemarle Co. Va. before 1763, and died Abt. 1804 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. He married UNKNOWN WOMAN. David Dalton lived 1782 in the Mountain Creek area of Rutherford County, N.C. In 1786 he bought 70 acres on the North Fork of Broad River from Thomas Morris. On June 6, 1804 his sons John and Thomas, as administrators, sold for $425 his 75 acres on both sides of the North Fork of main Broad River, Michael Muckleworth patent. This is also land which had belonged to Thomas Morris, thus it appears he bought a total of 145 acres from Thomas Morris.
