William Watson Cantrell

(August 27, 1858 - November 9, 1928)

"No children were born to the union of William Warson Cantrell and Nancy Ann Hightower, but their home served as a second home for several boys. Charley Gilley and John Johnson were with them for a few years during their boyhood days. John Johnson married Ola Cantrell, a daughter of James Jasper Cantrell and a niece of William Watson Cantrell. William Watson and Nancy Ann built a large home in Dunan on the county line with half in Webster County and half in Wright County. They owned a large farm with land in both counties. They were congenial with each other, and they enjoyed a happy home life. He was mild mannered, soft spoken and highly respected as an individual and stockman in Webster and Wright Counties. He had a "second sense" in the diagnosis of livestock diseases and prescribing effective medicine, and he more or less served as a veterinarian in the community. William Watson was fond of fine horses and he usually owned a stallion and a jack for breeding purposes. They were both member of the Christian Church at Marshfield, Missouri, where they had lived for a number of years after moving from Duncan."
