Individual Details

Abraham Cantrell

(Abt, 1765 - )

"Abraham Cantrell was probably the eldest son of Abraham and one of the sons "Over sixteen years of age" mentioned in the First Census, 1790. He married Sarah Durham in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. In 1813, he seems to have disposed of all his property in that state and moved to Tennessee, as he received a grant of land in 1814, which was recorded at Sparta, White County, Tennessee.

"In the ten years following the War of 1812, a large number of Cantrells moved from the Carolinas to Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama."

"In 1824 he received a grant of land on Sink Creek, Warren County, which is recorded at McMinnville, Tennessee. (A list of his thirteen children followed.)" (THE CANTRILL - CANTRELL GENEALOGY, 1908, by Susan Cantrill Christie, page 9.)
